On July 10-11 (Friday & Saturday), we hosted Bob & Ruth Froese for the Romanian Biblical Counseling School Module #10 on Family Counseling. Bob & Ruth are wonderful Christian servants and have a wonderful family of their own. They are certified Biblical Counselors with IABC (International Association of Biblical Counselors). Bob serves as Senior Pastor of Faith Fellowship in Buffalo, NY. Ruth serves on staff as well. This is their third time to serve as instructors here at our school.
I enjoyed watching the interaction between the students and Bob & Ruth. Bob is a former Pro Hockey player and coach. He & Ruth love the Lord and are excited about God’s amazing grace! The students asked good questions regarding real-life experiences. As always, they were hungry to know how to minister the word of God to the hurting people God brings into their lives. I am inspired by the fact that many of the students are already involved in some kind of ministry. In addition to serving in their local churches, they also serve in prison ministries, community youth ministries, ministries to women in crisis, and more. They also want to know how to apply Biblical principles in their daily relationships with co-workers as well as their families at home.
I remind the students from time to time that Biblical Counseling training will not only help them be better ministers of God’s word, but the training will most certainly help them in their personal life. Some of them actually become counseling cases and we spend several weeks together helping them learn how to live by the Word of God. It never fails at each module that at least one student will want to talk to us about a personal problem or a counseling situation in which they are involved. This happened at the July module. One of our female students was struggling with how to proceed in her ministry to a counselee. After Lacrisa (the School Director) and I listened to her concerns, we decided to involve Ruth in the consultation. Ruth was very helpful with specific directions on counseling women.
So the weekend modules are much more than instructive seminars on how to minister God’s word to hurting people. They are about transforming hearts, changing lives, renewing families and churches, and affecting the culture in the name of Jesus.
We always say the best Biblical Counselors are those who have personally benefitted from the ministry.
God is indeed raising up laborers for the harvest here in Romania!
